“Speaking to young people as a docent at the Maltz Museum and at schools has inspired me to continue telling my story,” wrote Holocaust survivor and longtime volunteer Betty Gold in her recent memoir, Beyond Trochenbrod. “I’m lucky to have been a positive influence on numerous young lives for so many years.”
We’re incredibly fortunate to have had such a strong, brave and generous person as Betty on our team. She touched us all deeply and countless letters from students and Maltz Museum visitors illustrate just how profoundly her words and her spirit touched so many others.
The loss of Betty will be keenly felt, but we take solace in continuing to promote her message of respect for others and having the courage to stand up against prejudice and discrimination. “We don’t inherit [hatred],” wrote Betty. “We learn it.” Betty taught love.
