We know a vibrant arts and culture scene draws people to our community. Praise for Cleveland as a top place to visit on prestigious lists such as Fodor’s “25 Must-See Travel Destinations for 2015” applauds the city’s offerings for “art and culture vultures, basketball fans, and stalwart foodies.”
Local residents recognized that arts and culture improved their quality of life too when they created Cuyahoga Arts & Culture (CAC) in 2006. As the public funder for arts and culture in Cuyahoga County, CAC has invested $125 million and made more than 1,200 grants since 2008.
The Maltz Museum is one of 300 organizations benefiting from this community support. Over the past eight years, the Museum has received more than $1.2 million dollars in CAC support, which we’ve used to mount exhibitions and implement programs that explore identity, celebrate culture and foster an appreciation for Jewish heritage and the diversity of the human experience.
Entering our tenth anniversary year, the Museum continues to grow its base of support and find its niche in Northeast Ohio’s arts and culture landscape. During eight of our ten years, CAC has been an invaluable partner whose support has enabled us to collaborate with numerous other arts, culture and civic organizations and create inspired programming and events that make an impact far beyond the Museum’s walls. Whether it is the Catholic Diocese, Roots of American Music, Call & Post, The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio, Chagrin Documentary Film Festival or the Baseball Heritage Museum, CAC’s support has empowered the Museum to bring people together, as both a convener and as a safe forum for important conversations around issues facing our world today.
CAC’s sole funding source is an already established cigarette tax within Cuyahoga County. Its renewal will be on the November 3 ballot for voters to consider. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to learn more about this important source of funding for arts and arts education in our community by visiting cacgrants.org.
