(CLEVELAND, OH) June 13, 2019 – The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage is proud to announce a summer installation for younger audiences. Back by popular demand, The Everyday Heroes Activity Center is now open and invites children to discover their own everyday superpowers, such as kindness, compassion, listening, and helping through hands-on activities. From Painting Kindness Rocks to Building a Better World Lego Station to Zooming around the Good Mood Movement Area, young families can explore values of being an everyday hero in an interactive play space. The Everyday Heroes Activity Center will be open during regular Museum hours, now through August 18 (2929 Richmond Road, Beachwood; 216-593-0575; maltzmuseum.org).
This Sunday, June 16, the Maltz Museum will open for only $5 general admission (children under 5 and members are free) to expand Father’s Day into Family Hero Day.
“Not every family has the same kind of traditional structure so this Father’s Day we are celebrating Family Hero Day,” said Dahlia Fisher, Director of External Relations for the Maltz Museum.

This Father’s Day, the Maltz Museum is celebrating fathers, father figures, and family caregivers of all kinds with discounted admission to the Museum, including The Everyday Heroes Activity Center and Story Tour. Family members of all ages can enjoy the HBO documentary A Family is A Family is A Family about the many different kinds of people and relationships that make up loving families. Two showings at 1PM and 3PM.
The Everyday Heroes Activity Center, which features interactive stations where children can enjoy books, crafts, movement, and more, includes a variety of activities such as:
- Make Your Own Capes and Masks
- Zoom around the Good Mood Movement Area
- Paint Kindness Rocks to Keep and Share
- Build a Better World with Jumbo Legos
- Be the Hero of Your Own Story at the Puppet Theater
- And more!
“We can all be everyday heroes. Anyone at any age can make a difference,” said Fisher. “We are proud to feature six young people from Ohio and beyond who express values of being an everyday hero, doing their part to help the communities where they live.”
Activity Center visitors will learn about six inspiring kids:
- Christian Bucks from Pennsylvania, who introduced the Buddy Bench to his American school to help kids make friends during recess.
- Gabe Feinberg from Ohio, who write a book to help spread the word about being kind to everyone, donating the money he earned to a charity that supports helping people with differences.
- Reggie Fields from Ohio, who started his own business mowing lawns for his neighbors; even when the work got hard and people doubted him, he never gave up.
- Cassandra Lin from Rhode Island, who figured out how to heat homes using fuel made from cooking grease, helping the environment and neighbors who had trouble paying heating bills.
- Mia Rodriguez, who gives presents to police officers and others on her birthday as a thank you for their protection and service.
- Ella Tryon from Ohio, who started collecting individual packs of crayons for sick children in the hospital after she learned that kids couldn’t share crayons because of the risk of spreading germs.
In addition, visitors can participate in an Everyday Hero Story Tour, which is a self-guided, hands-on tour using a custom-created children’s book to explore the Museum’s core exhibition, An American Story. Discover heroic qualities of an immigrant family moving to a new country through values such as hard work, caring for each other, and the courage to try new things.
