Docent Training Scheduled for July and August
Cleveland, Ohio – June 24, 2011 – Since the Museum opened in 2005, more than 50,000 students from public, private, parochial, home, and charter schools have taken guided tours on Cleveland history, the Holocaust, tolerance and diversity, and Jewish holidays. Thousands of adults have come to view special exhibitions on topics ranging from comic book superheroes and Biblical archeology, to domestic terrorism and Cleveland’s Olympic Medalist Jesse Owens.
Docents are an essential part of the visitor experience at the Maltz, welcoming and knowledgeable links to help guests get more from their visits. For the docent, the work is enriching and educational, a creative and exciting way to continue lifelong learning and support the Museum’s work. Docents learn the inside story of exhibits and interact with a diverse range of museum visitors and topics. Join us and make an impact on our community as we celebrate Cleveland’s rich history, warn about the dangers of hatred, and engage with people from a wide variety of backgrounds to help envision a better tomorrow.

Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage
WHAT:
Currently recruiting volunteer docents to lead student and adult tours of our permanent collection and special exhibitions. Experience working with youth as a docent or teacher is helpful but not necessary, but your enthusiasm is! We especially need volunteers interested in working with students in grades K- 3rd. The Museum is also continually looking for volunteers and interns to assist with all aspects of operation – greeting visitors, assisting customers in the Museum Store, database and office work, assisting at events and more.
