Dear Friends,
As concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19) grow, we are taking precautions to protect staff and visitors. Yesterday, the Governor announced that there have been three reports of COVID-19 cases in our area. Currently, we have no reason to believe that there is a specific connection between these cases and the Museum; however, we will be vigilant in sharing information should we learn otherwise. The health and safety of our staff and visitors is our first priority.
The Museum continues to be open for tours and programs. Our cleaning service is providing extra cleaning on surfaces, rails, door handles and high traffic areas. In addition, we are increasing the number of times these surfaces are cleaned each day. We will also be positioning additional containers of hand sanitizer within main areas of the Museum.
Below are recommendations from the CDC on how you can help prevent the spread of illness:
- If you are experiencing symptoms of acute respiratory illness and/or have a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher or signs of a fever, please stay home until you are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicines.
- Frequent hand washing is recommended, especially before and after eating. Use soap and wash for at least 20 seconds.
- Cover sneezes and coughs with tissues or your elbow. If you use your hands, wash immediately. Avoid touching your face.
We are proud to be in communication with area Museums and Jewish institutions in developing additional precautionary plans to minimize the spread of the illness and know what actions we need to take as a public facility. While we hope any potential actions will be unnecessary, it is important for us to be prepared. If there is a change in our current plans, we will keep you appropriately informed.
For the most up-to-date information about the virus, we recommend visiting the CDC website or the World Health Organization website. For a description of how the virus works, check out this 5-minute video.
Thank you,
David Schafer
